Cambridge ACS, in collaboration with The Cambridge Union , are thrilled to bring you The Motherland Conference 2018.

Africa is one of the most exciting landscapes in the modern world. Constantly adapting to meet the needs of it's youthful population whilst battling to conserve it's identity and find it's place on the global stage.

Join us as we delve into reimagining the story of this fascinating continent and explore how members of the diaspora can contribute to the narrative. Learn from Key note speakers at the forefront of Governance, Business and Culture and enjoy the chance to share your own ideas during our interactive panel discussions.

Together we will forge a vision for a new motherland.


The conference will be focussed on the key areas of Business and Industry, Governance, and Culture. Through intimate panel discussions featuring the very best of the continent, we will encourage students to collectively forge a vision for a new Motherland. In the evening, to top it off, we will reimagine the idea of Cambridge’s black-tie traditions.

Gbenga Oyebode
Mr Gbenga Oyebode MFR

Gbenga Oyebode MFR is the Chairman of Aluko & Oyebode, (Barristers, Solicitors & Trademark Agents), one of the largest integrated law firms in Nigeria, with offices in Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt. Gbenga was on the cover of Forbes Africa July 2018 and was Chairman of Access Bank Plc (2005-2015). He is the Chairman of Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc and CFAO Nigeria Plc and serves on the Boards of MTN Nigeria Limited, Nestle Nigeria Plc and Socfinaf S.A (listed on the Luxemburg Stock Exchange). He sits on the Africa Advisory Committee of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and is a Member of the Board of Trustees of Carnegie Hall, New York. Gbenga is the past Chairman of the Section of Business Law of the Nigerian Bar Association. Gbenga was conferred with one of Nigeria’s highest honours, the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and was also conferred with the Belgian Royal Honour of ‘Knight of the Order of Leopold’. Gbenga was educated at the University of Ife (LL.B Honours), and the University of Pennsylvania (LL.M). He was conferred Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa), by the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti and Elizade University, Ilara Mokin, Ondo State, Nigeria. He is the Chancellor of Elizade University, Ilara Mokin, Ondo State, Nigeria. He was conferred with an award for Lifetime Contribution to Law at the Law Digest Africa Awards 2015.

Adesua Dozie
Ms. Adesua Dozie

Adesua Dozie is the General Counsel, GE Africa. As General Counsel, Mrs Dozie acts as the chief legal officer for a company with over 2600 employees, revenues of about $3.3 billion dollars and operations in 33 African countries. She is also a strong advocate of women in business and economic empowerment in Africa.
Adesua has an LL.B from the University of Buckingham and an LL.M from Cornell Law school and is admitted practice law in New York and Nigeria. Previously, she was Senior Operations Counsel and Marketing, Customer and Commercial Counsel for The Coca-Cola Company Eurasia Africa Group. Prior to this, Mrs Dozie was a lawyer at Ajumogobia & Okeke, a prominent Nigerian law firm.
